The Slovakian team was able to maintain the upper hand in the final round, proving their dominance against the team „Schachgemeinschaft Leipzig“ with a strong 4 – 0 win, securing the first place in the 50+ section with 17 points. But not only as a team did they remain unbeaten. The Slovaks did not lose a single game during the World Cup! Team Germany won against SV Lok Engelsdorf and received two points, thus securing 15 points and the silver medal. The bronze medal goes to England 1, which is due to better fine-rating just ahead of Thuringia – both have 13 team points. In the 65 + – Tournament it was already decided, even before today’s round, that Team Russia would be the winner. But regardless, the Russians proved once again that they have a strong performance winning 4 – 0 against the Berlin Chess Federation. Right behind them Kaissa Germany and Team Germany went with 12 team points against each other in the final round. The game ended in a draw, but due to a better fine-rating Kaissa Germany went ahead and wins silver leaving the bronze medal to Team Germany.

Team Germany 1 Women surprisingly decided the women’s category for themselves. Today’s draw for the German women (with 10 points overall) was enough to leave the Russian women’s team behind them, playing against the SK Bad Harzburg on the final day. Though the Russian women’s team was indeed successful against the Latvian women moving past them in the ranking it was not enough for the overall win. The second German women’s team earned as many points as the team from Latvia, but ended up in fourth place because of the better fine rating for the Latvians.

We congratulate the winners, wish you all a safe journey home and look forward to seeing you again at the 4th World Senior Team Championship 2016 in Radebeul!
