5th round brings the lead for Armenia

Royal visit at the opening of the fifth round: The Saxon Wine Princess Anna Bräunig made the first move on board one in section 50+ today. The 25-year old from Meißen representing the Saxon Weinbauverband, who is working as an office manager of an insurance broker when she’s not on princess duty. The affinity for wine is quite common in her family: her brother-in-law is a winemaker in one of the leading wineries of Saxony and her brother is learning the trade of the winemaker as well. After the opening move the chess pieces were once again in the spotlight. In the section 50+ two teams have broken away from the rest of the teams. After their victories, Armenia and Germany 1 are leading the ranking with 10 points each. Behind them are England 1, Emanuel-Lasker-Gesellschaft and Iceland.

In the women’s section Russia Women defeated Germany 1 with 3: 1 and now holds place 10 in the overall ranking. After today’s win Germany 1 Women holds place 21 in the ranking. Tomorrowthere will be another ladies encounter: Russia Women meets Latvia Women.

The favorites of section 65+ were able to obtain another win. Russia 65+ is still unbeaten and leads the ranking with 10 points, followed by St. Petersburg and Belgium 1 who will be facing Russia 65+ tomorrow.

ELO-ranked Blitz tournament

On Wednesday afternoon, an outstanding Single Blitz Tournament, both quantitative and qualitative, took place. 83 players, including 10 Grand masters and a total of 30 title holders, found their way into the tournament hall. The winner was GM Rafael Vaganian.

Royaler Besuch zur Eröffnung der fünften Runde. Die Sächsische Weinprinzessin Anna Bräunig machte heute am ersten Brett den ersten Zug. Die 25- jährige Meißnerin, die den Sächsischen Weinbauverband repräsentiert, arbeitet selbst als Büroleiterin eines Versicherungsbüros. Die Affinität zum Wein ist in der Familie dennoch groß: ihr Schwager ist Kellermeister in einem der führenden Sächsischen Weingüter und auch ihr Bruder erlernt den Beruf des Winzers. Danach standen wieder die Schachfiguren im Vordergrund. In der Sektion 50+ haben sich zwei Teams abgesetzt. Nach Siegen führen Armenien und Germany 1 die Rangliste mit jeweils 10 Punkten an. Dahinter liegen England 1, die Emanuel – Lasker – Gesellschaft und Iceland.

In der Damensektion unterlag Russia Women Germany 1 mit 1:3 und belegt damit Tabellenplatz 10. Germany 1 Women liegt nach einem Sieg auf Rang 21. Morgen kommt es erneut zu einer reinen Damenbegegnung: Russia Women trifft auf Latvia Women.

In der Sektion 65+ siegten erneut die Favoriten. Russia 65+ ist noch ohne Niederlage und führt die Tabelle mit 10 Punkten an, gefolgt von St. Petersburg und Belgium 1, das morgen auf Russia 65+ trifft.

ELO – gewertetes Blitzturnier

Am Mittwochnachmittag fand ein quantitativ wie qualitativ herausragend besetztes Blitzturnier statt. 83 Spieler, darunter 10 GM von insgesamt 30 Titelträger fanden erneut den Weg in den Turniersaal. Gewonnen hat GM Rafael Vaganian.

The 4th World Team Championship 50+ & 65+ was visited by a special guest from the great prairies of the Wild West – Old Shatterhand, the famous character from the Karl May books, opened the first round.

Today’s matches brought many victories and some surprises.

Section 50+

Germany 1 won their matches against England 1 with 2 ½ to 1 ½ and are now ranking on the promising 2^nd place right behind Armenia and in front of Iceland. Team Iceland was successful against the Emanuel Lasker Society. In the women’s section Russia Women continued its triumph – they won 3: 1 against the team of the Post-SV Ulm and are currently positioned on place 4.

Exchange of blows between St. Petersburg and Russia 65+

In the section 65+ the meeting of the two top-teams took place. Russia 65+ was bale to play out their advantage and win the fight with 2½. Belgium 1 and Germany 2 parted with 1: 3, leaving Germany 2 in second place in front of St. Petersburg (3.) is now and behind Russia 65+(1.).

Simultan chess in Altkötzschenbroda with Dr. Andreas Dückstein

In collaboration with the Restaurant „Alte Apotheke“ in Altkötzschenbroda a simultan game with Dr. Andreas Dückstein took place on the village green on Tuesday. Experienced players, as well as young chess friends tried to snatch a point from the nestor but were only successful to do so one time. Dr. Matthias Schneider won his match against the Austrian Dückstein. Numerous visitors and passers-by took this opportunity to watch the games in the intimate atmosphere or even play a match or two of their own.

Hoher Besuch aus der Prärie bei der 4. World Team Championship 50+ & 65+ – Old Shatterhand persönlich gab sich die Ehre und eröffnete die erste Runde, in der es sowohl Favoritensiege als auch Überraschungen gab.

Sektion 50+

Überraschend setzte sich Germany 1 mit 2 ½ zu 1 ½ gegen England 1 durch und liegt nun hinter Armenien und vor Iceland auf aussichtsreichem Platz 2. Team Iceland war gegen die Emanuel Lasker Gesellschaft erfolgreich. In der Frauensektion setzte Russia Women seinen Siegeszug fort – sie gewannen 3:1 gegen die Mannschaft des Post – SV Ulm und rangieren aktuell auf Platz 4.

Schlagabtausch zwischen St. Petersburg und Russia 65+

In der Sektion 65+ kam es zum Aufeinandertreffen der Top – Teams. Russia 65+ hatte am Ende das bessere Händchen und entschied den Kampf mit 2 ½ Punkten für sich. Dahinter trennten sich Belgium 1 und Germany 2 mit 1:3, das nun hinter Russia 65+ und vor St. Petersburg auf Platz 2 liegt.

Simultanschach in Altkötzschenbroda mit Dr. Andreas Dückstein

In Zusammenarbeit mit dem Altkötzschenbrodaer Restaurant „Alte Apotheke“ fand am Dienstagabend auf dem Dorfanger ein Simultankampf mit Dr. Andreas Dückstein statt. Bei bestem Wetter versuchten erfahrene Spieler genauso wie Nachwuchsspieler dem Altmeister einen Punkt abzuluchsen, was aber nur einmal gelang. Dr. Matthias Schneider konnte seine Partie gegen den Österreicher Dückstein für sich entscheiden. Zahlreiche Besucher und Passanten nutzen die Gelegenheit in lauschiger Atmosphäre die spannenden Partien zu verfolgen oder selbst eine Partei zu spielen.

Round 3

The third round of the World Championship was opened in Section 50+ by Norbert Rogge, Marketing Director Oppacher, in section 65+ by Winfried Lehmann, 2. Mayor of Radebeul, and in the women’s section by Elisabeth Pähtz, who currently is the best German woman in chess.

After this high-ranking first move, the players once again went at it in the tournament hall, despite the beautiful weather outside. In the section 65+ today’s games brought no change in the ranking, with St. Petersburg leading the list, followed by Belgium and Russia 1 65+.

In the section 50+ two top-ranked teams were able to win with a close run: Iceland defeated the team Thüringen 2.5:1.5 and England 1 defeated the defending champion Slovakia with the same result.

Early preliminary decision for the gold medal in the women’s section?

In the fight Russia Women against Germany Women 1, the adversaries separated with a 3.5: 0.5 victory for the Russians. This could leave the Russian ladies with the advantage to secure the gold medal in the women’s section.

Tomorrow, the two German top teams on the first tables in section 50+, Emanuel Lasker Gesellschaft and Germany 1, will challange the two title aspirants.

The participants of yesterday’s framework social program joyfully reported of their journey with the train „Lößnitzdackel“. After visiting the narrow-gauge railway museum the adventurous group enjoyed a ride on the train to Moritzburg and back to Radebeul.

Die dritte Runde der Weltmeisterschaft wurde in Sektion 50+ von Norbert Rogge, Marketingleiter von Oppacher, in Sektion 65+ von Winfried Lehmann, 2. Bürgermeister Radebeul, und in der Frauensektion von Elisabeth Pähtz, derzeit beste deutsche Frau im Schach, eröffnet.

Nach diesem hochrangigen ersten Zug lieferten sich die Spieler erneut hitzige Partien und schenkten sich, trotz des schönen Wetters draußen, im Turniersaal nichts. In der Sektion 65+ brachten die heutigen Partien dennoch keine Änderung in der Rangliste mit sich. St. Petersburg führt weiterhin die Liste an, gefolgt von Belgium 1 und Russia 65+.

In der Sektion 50+ konnten zwei topgesetzten Teams knappe Siege erringen: Island besiegte den Landesverband Thüringen mit 2,5:1,5 und England 1 besiegte mit dem selben Resultat den Titelverteidiger Slowakei.

Frühe Vorentscheidung um die Goldmedaille bei den Frauen?

Beim Kampf Russia Women gegen Germany Women 1 trennten sich die Kontrahentinnen mit einem 3,5:0,5 Sieg der Russinnen. Dies könnte den russischen Damen den Vorsprung liefern, um sich die Goldmedaille in der Frauensektion zu sichern.

Morgen werden auf den ersten Tischen in Sektion 50+ die zwei deutschen Topteams, Emanuel-Lasker-Gesellschaft und Germany 1, versuchen, den zwei oben genannten Titelaspiranten das Leben schwer zu machen.

Freudig berichteten die Teilnehmer des gestrigen Rahmenprogramms von ihrer Fahrt mit dem „Lößnitzdackel“. Nach dem Besuch des Schmalspurbahnmuseums genossen die Unternehmungslustigen eine Runde mit der Bahn nach Moritzburg und wieder zurück nach Radebeul.

After the spirited opening ceremony and a first round that went as expected, the favorites were able to once again assert their dominance in round 2.

Section 50+
Team Iceland, who is appearing in this championship in the same line-up as in the 1980s Olympiad against the Soviet Union, won 3:1 against the team from SV Eiche Reichenbrand. In 1980 the Soviet Union emerged victorious from the match. England 1 prevailed against Austria 1 with 4:0, the matches of Russia Women against the team VSG 1880 Offenbach ended in a draw. Since the woman’s team Germany 1 was able to win all its matches against Radebeul’s sister city Obuchiw, they are now leading the woman’s ranking. It’s going to get interesting tomorrow in the woman’s section – Germany 1 will be playing against Russia Women.

Section 65+

Russia 65+ was able to assert itself against Switzerland with a 3:1 win. The team from the USV TU Dresden lost to St. Petersburg with 0:4. On board three Niederösterreich and the Schachfreunde Leipzig ended their matches with 1:3.

Aside from the activity in the tournament hall the first excursion of the social program took place. A stroll through the wonderful town of Altkötzschenbroda, with its original shops and cozy wine inns and pubs, was scheduled in the morning.

Nach schwungvoller Eröffnung und erwartungsgemäß verlaufener erster Runde konnten sich auch in Runde 2 überwiegend die Favoriten durchsetzen.

Sektion 50+

Team Iceland, das heute in dergleichen Besetzung wie bei der Olympiade 1980 gegen die Sowjetunion antrat, gewann heute 3:1gegen den SV Eiche Reichenbrand. 1980 war die Sowjetunion als Sieger vom Platz gegangen. England 1setzte sich mit 4:0 gegen Austria 1 durch, Russia Women und das Team VSG 1880 Offenbach remis trennten. Da dem Frauenteam Germany 1 ein Sieg gegen das Team aus der Partnerstadt Radebeuls Obuchiw gelang, führen sie nun die Damenwertung an.

In der Damenwertung wird es morgen bereits spannend – es kommt zum direkten Aufeinandertreffen von Germany 1 und Russia Women.

Sektion 65+

Russia 65+ setzte sich gegen Switzerland mit 3:1 durch, das Team vom USV TU Dresden unterlag St. Petersburg mit 4:0. An Brett drei trennten sich Niederösterreich und die Schachfreunde Leipzig 1:3.

Neben den Aktivitäten im Turniersaal fand auch die erste Rahmenveranstaltung statt: auf dem Programm stand ein Bummel durch Altkötzschenbroda, wo originelle Läden und gemütliche Kneipen und Weinlokale zum flanieren einladen.

The 4th World Team Championship 50+ & 65+ was opened with a short and spirited ceremony. The packed tournament hall – with 107 teams from 23 nations – at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Radebeul was greeted by tournament director Dr. Dirk Jordan. The marching-in of the participating nations was once again carried out representatively by our „Fahnenkinder“, this time from the elementary school „Niederlößnitz“ in Radebeul. To the music of Jeremiah Clarke each child carried one of the 23 national flags into the tournament hall. Afterwards, the lord mayor of Radebeul, Bert Wendsche, the lord mayor of the sister city Obuchiw, Alexander Levchenko, as well as the District Administrator of the district Meißen, Arndt Steinbach, greeted all guests and participants. After the short welcoming speeches the children carrying the flags were sent off with thunderous applause. Then the young performers of the Saxon Artist School Association showed their incredible skills. Jugglers, rope artists and acrobats in fantastic costumes thrilled the guests with a rapid short programm. Following the „Magic at the Arena“ performance, FIDE Vice President Herbert Bastian opened the world championship.
